What is a DHCP server?
DHCP is known as the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. It is used to assign dynamic IP address to computers. For example, in your organization you have about 5000 desktops to manage. How do you track all computers? How can you track the IP address of all computers, if you assign a static IP address. Managing and tracking records will not be a daunting task for the system administrator.
Unlike a static address, dynamic IP address management is extremely simple and easy to manage. DHCP will help you centrally manage and configure an IP address for your environment. You don't need to keep a list of IP addresses you've already assigned or worry about assigning identical IP addresses to multiple computers, etc. In addition to the IP address, it provides other configuration details such as the IP address of the DNS, router, etc.
